Explanation: Software agent

A "software agent" is an autonomous computer program. It can independently carry out tasks, make decisions and interact with its environment or other agents. Software agents usually function on the basis of predefined rules. However, they can also react dynamically in the context of machine learning or using artificial intelligence (AI). Typical areas of application are automation, process control and simulations.
