In industry, a “modular system” refers to a strategic development and production method in which products and processes are designed on the basis of standardized modules or components. These modules can be flexibly combined to produce different product variants without disproportionately increasing complexity or costs. The central intentions and characteristics of a modular system are modularity, standardization, flexibility, and economies of scale.
