Explanation: Edge AI

In industry, “edge AI” generally refers to the use of artificial intelligence (AI) directly at or near the data source, for example in machines, sensors or production systems. The data used is not transferred to the cloud or a server for processing; instead, the data integration of AI models and computing power takes place on edge devices (small computers or microcontrollers).
Examples of edge AI applications include predictive maintenance, the control of autonomous means of transportation in logistics and real-time product quality control in the manufacturing process. Edge AI offers industry benefits such as low latency for time-critical applications or reduced network load and costs thanks to lower data transfer rates. Edge AI also reduces security risks and supports greater reliability of the machines and systems concerned.
